Nokia G42 Android Phone Equipped With a Repair Kit
Nokia G42 Android Phone Equipped With a Repair Kit - The iFixit website provided us with the battery replacement instructions for the Nokia G42, and we were able to complete the process and close up the phone with a new battery in just 50 minutes. Although the battery replacement kits are not yet available, we were able to re-insert the same battery. During The Entire Process During the entire process, we faced some additional steps not mentioned by iFixit. These steps included searching for a guitar pick, which we couldn't find, and looking for the Rocksmith guitar to check if a pick was stuck in the strings (it wasn't). We had to open the phone using a thumbnail instead of a pick, which slowed us down a bit. Additionally, we took photographs of the disassembled phone for this review and realized that our photo didn't match the one on the website due to two wires poking out. We had to carefully push those wires back in, which proved to be challenging. Moreover, we discovered that clipping the phone back together from the left side caused the fingerprint scanner on the right side to get stuck. It would have been helpful if iFixit had mentioned this in their instructions. We had to unclip the phone using a thumbnail again, which was even more difficult with the stuck fingerprint reader. Finally, we managed to clip it all together, leaving no visible signs of being opened. After Subtracting These Delays After subtracting these delays, we estimate that the actual repair process took us approximately 20 minutes. As mentioned earlier, it was a relatively easy task. The battery life of the Nokia G42 is exceptional, reminiscent of the good old days of Huawei phones before they were banned. In our tests, the battery lasted for at least two days, and HMD Global, the owner of Nokia, claims it can provide three days of usage on a single charge. The Camera on The Nokia G42 Doesn't Live Up Unfortunately, the camera on the Nokia G42 doesn't live up to the standards set by Huawei cameras in the past. While it is decent, it lacks the clarity, vibrancy, and low-light performance that we are accustomed to in flagship phones that cost significantly more and are generally not user-repairable. The performance of the Nokia G42 is also decent, but when compared to phones like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5, it falls significantly short. The Flip5 is 2.8 times faster in terms of both single- and multi-core performance and 8.1 times faster in graphics performance. However, it's important to note that the Nokia G42 offers something different. While it may not be the most high-end phone available, it is durable and has a lower ongoing cost. It is designed to be a long-lasting and affordable option. Hopefully, the success of phones like the Nokia G42 will inspire manufacturers of high-end devices to consider the right to repair and provide users with more options for repairing their devices.
